This Bere Bere Sauce is a great, low-sodium, lightened take on a traditional Ethiopian sauce. It adds a punch of flavor to lentil, split pea or other protein-packed vegetarian options. You can also drizzle this delicious sauce over grilled, roasted or sautéed rice or veggies.
This recipe makes use of my Bere Bere Spice Blend. Use your reserved Bere Bere spice in my favorite Ethiopian dishes like Mesir Wat and Abesha Gomen.

Bere Bere Sauce
This Bere Bere Sauce is a great, low-sodium, lightened take on a traditional Ethiopian sauce.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon bere bere spice (see Instructions below)
- 2 tablespoons white vinegar
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/8-1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper , to taste
Instructions
- Prepare my Bere Bere Spice Blend.
- Whisk all ingredients together until smooth.
- Adjust cayenne pepper to taste.
- Use your reserved Bere Bere spice in my favorite Ethiopian dishes like Mesir Wat and Abesha Gomen.
Notes
Serve over rice or veggies. A great low-sodium flavorful option.
